Yes, TRT is safe as long as you are consistent with your lab work and follow up. Every medication comes with adverse effects, some worse than others. One of the side effects of TRT is an elevated hematocrit level which is caused by the increased production of red blood cells. We monitor this level and can treat it if it becomes too high. If you don't follow up with lab work, the blood may become too thick and you are prone to cardiovascular events, blood clots, and stroke. Other common side effects include acne, acceleration of male pattern baldness if you are prone to it, and testicular atrophy. We also carry medications that can stimulate the testicles and prevent testicular atrophy.
Testosterone therapy may cause infertility because of the effect on spermatogenesis. There are options to increase testosterone levels without actually taking testosterone by stimulating the body's natural production of testosterone. We also have medications that can improve fertility.
There is no clear evidence that associates TRT to the development of prostate cancer. It still remains controversial that TRT can worsen prostate cancer if you already have it, but more evidence is needed to say for sure. On the contrary, a few studies do show that LOW levels of testosterone can increase the severity of prostate cancer. Either way, we are cautious with people who have a family history of prostate cancer and recommend age appropriate screening. Review the attached article.
As long as the lab work was completed within the last 90 days, I can use them. Must have a Total and Free Testosterone, CBC, CMP, Estradiol, and PSA included in your labs at the minimum.

No. This is because insurance companies do not reimburse unless your testosterone level is less than 300 ng/dl. Optimal testosterone levels are between 700-1400 ng/dl. Many people still experience symptoms of low testosterone at levels of 300-700 ng/dl and qualify for treatment. If you would like to submit an itemized bill to your insurance company, we can provide one upon request.
